Water storage in Ohio winters?????
As you can tell I live in Ohio, and today it's a cold winter's day. I'm considering a storage tank to keep in my non-heated garage most likely around a 100 gal. My question is what kind of heater would I have to get to heat the tank, and could I just wrap it in insulation to maintain a warm temperature?

I too live in Ohio and have an unheated garage. I'm just getting started with discus (in fact I'm just cycling the 75 gallon tank and don't have any fish at this time). I've got a 55gallon plastic drum that I'm keeping in the garage and using to prep water for the tank. I've filled and am using an Fluval E300 watt heater to warm it to 80 degrees. So far no problem.

Maybe I should have led with my unheated garage is also not insulated, maybe that's why I'm in this dilemma. Your unheated garage is probably well insulated right? Jim in North Ridgeville. Ohio

I have a couple ideas for you but a lot depends on what is on the other side of your garage wall. Give me a call if you want.

Maybe you could build a simple box enclosure that you could insulate.

They make barrel heater blankets... expensive but I would just put an extra heater in it. I had a fish tank in there and it was fine except it evaporated fast.
