Re: Australia - Queensland
A quick introduction from Adelaide South Australia. I'm Dianne and have just joined the forum tonight. I've always loved discus but unlike yourself Rod I am a small time keeper of discus. I currently have a 3 foot JUWEL VISON 180 with 5 young discus. I recently moved on 4 larger discus opting to start over with a higher quality discus. Two of the previous 4 had significant stunted growth issues from the breeder and also terrible damage to their eyes which caused them to suffer significant vision loss. I purchase 6 young discus last Sunday. Worming on day 2. Just yesterday my tank experienced an emergency water change. I sadly lost my yellow checkerboard. All others are hanging in there and doing ok but it was a sickening experience. I took advice from a LFS. I was advised to add a cap of melafix to the tank each day for 3 days and then at each water change. I believe that was the cause as prior to me adding the 3rd treatment they were doing quite well considering all being new to the tank. I've joined the forum to learn from those that have experienced it all and know what works with discus. I did doubt adding more but thought ' surely they must know '. I still have signs of occasional fin clamping but after taking drastic steps to do such a huge water change yesterday It has more than likely upset the bio filter some what. Keeping a very close eye on parameters to monitor ammonia and small daily water changes. BIG scare and I'm very lucky I didn't lose the entire tank! Hoping on learning a great deal more from this forum :)
Cheers
Dianne
Re: Australia - Queensland
Rod,
Do you still have all your tanks setup? I get to Brisbane fairly often and would love to have a look at your tanks.
I have a 8x2x2 and a 6x2x2 that I will be setting up shortly and after that I will be in the market for some discus.
Cheers Ryan

Too many variables to list, the breed, colour, quality etc etc etc...
Re: Australia - Queensland
Rod will have another shipment coming in the next month or so, pop him an email and he can put you on the list depending what strain they are the price varies.

Re: Australia - Queensland
Hi everyone, I'm in NSW near Sydney, I am constantly learning more and more and after purchasing several discus ended up with a breeding pair and have had to work backwards to set up a tank for them, as it started out a community tank. My breeding pair now in their own tank have decided to fight over who looks after the eggs, so hopefully I can find some answers on here about some issues I have come across,
Re: Australia - Queensland
Hello I thought to introduce myself, I am in Perth Western Australia, We don't have many discus breeders or importers here. There is only 1 guy I know who sells high quality discus which he gets from the eastern states who gets them imported from forrest. Anyway I have 11 discus ranging in size and bought them all from him. I want to one day setup a breeding tank and breed the forrest discus I buy from him and perhaps sell/trade to like minded hobbyist here in Perth who want quality discus without the huge price tag we have to pay here for them. I have had the layout of the "discus room" in my mind for the last 2 years and have gone over many idea's to make it work and keep the discus at the highest possible healthy condition I can. I have really enjoyed keeping discus since moving over from African cichlids, I have been keeping discus for only 2 years but I knew when I got my first discus that this is the fish for me to keep. I kept Africans for 5 years before moving to discus.
