That iron blue is really nice

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
Honestly I wish I could have afforded all 4. There are still 3 5 inchers left and of course that 7-8 inch Male show quality. He would be incredible breeding stock but $500 is a bit rich for my blood!

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
I was thinking of ordering 1 of the 5-5.5" Alenquer F1 at 230.00. You say they were nice? Can you tell me what the F1 means, I'm assuming it is a determination of grade? Does the price seem commensurate to size and quality? Thanks Lidoventura.

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
Lilyann, F1 means that it is an offspring to a or both parents being wild.

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
The Alenquer F1 are awesome, there was one with a really rare color morph where it was showing spots like a red spotted green, you should ask Darwin if that one is still available. I think the price on them is very fair. The overall health of them looked great.
And that is correct F1 indicates that both parents are F0 which means wild caught. Usually F1 stock is the best for the home aquarium because they have spent their lives in tap water but still posses the high quality color that is later lost through down breeding. Whereas the F0 as some collectors keep require perfect conditions to thrive, even more perfect than the already high requirement domestic discus.

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
Oh, I see, thank you both Dominic and Lidoventura. Another question, as they are not wild-caught, would it be fine to mix them (after quarantine) with domestic discus that I have recently purchased from Kenny.

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
Thank you, just emailed him to ask about the particular fish you were referring to .

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
Awesome. If they have that one still it would be an awesome parent to try and replicate the gene.

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
Attachment 106645LidoVentura- I received the alenquer F1 today from Uncle Sam's discus. He didn't know the exact fish you were speaking of but I gave your description of it. Do you think this was the one that you were speaking of? If not he/ she is still a nice fish!

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
I am really impressed with Uncle Sam's discus this month, those wild crosses and F1 alenquers have my mouth watering. Good job OP and great looking fish.

Re: Uncle Sam's Discus
That is exactly it! The red spots aren't typical for that bloodline. It is beautiful!!
It was the only one like that out of 50+ fish they had
