Would you like to sell her? Do you have any Severums for sale?
No, I don't have anything for sale currently. The only thing I've bred lately are the hybrid geos and I'm only raising them out to document them and see what they turn out like. As for the rotkeil, I'd like to keep her because she looks nice. ;) She's in my living room tank so everyone can see that not all my fish are brown and colorless. lol
Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
that is pretty weird/cool about the bars becoming one. Have you noticed certain bars that are more prone to fusing in to one?

:) If you end up with any fry or do another order with Oliver please keep me in mind.

Very nice indeed Ryan. I kept Rotkeils for about 5 yrs very cool fish. I really like the pattern of these, seems like there should be more of the Hero's family in the trade as old as they are. Wonder why we only see so few even for folks like Jeff Rapps?
Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
Well, I came home to TONS of eggs today.

Unfortunately, they look unfertilized to me. Usually severum eggs look more tan or beige colored. These look too white and translucent. The male is only halfway helping out with defending the territory and I don't think he's really figured it all out yet. Hopefully they'll prove me wrong. If not, at least I have a confirmed female now.
Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
I hope they are fertile Ryan. If they are you may be a busy man. :D

Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
That is a whole lot of eggs. Does a single female lay this many eggs typically with Severums?
Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
It's not too uncommon with larger females. She's probably a 7" fish. I expected their first spawn to be small but it's possible that she's spawned before in the wild.

Really nice.
Severums love lettuce and plants in general XD

They certainly do. A lot of people don't realize how much greenery they enjoy in their diet. I try to give mine Romaine lettuce, spirulina flakes or pellets, and they also nibble on the zucchini I feed to my plecos. I also can't keep pothos in severum tanks because they will eat all the roots, then drag the plant by the stem into the tank and try to eat the rest of it.
Dad is doing a better job at defending the nest tonight. I took a few pictures of the pair in their defensive colors. Notice the bright eyes and dark bodies.

Also, I'd like everyone to note that this is a 210 gallon tank which is 72" long by 24" wide. Notice that the pair has claimed over half of it. When people ask about keeping larger cichlids like severums, geos, festivums, or acaras with discus, this is the reason I always hesitate to say yes. It's not uncommon for even a medium-sized pair of Heros to take over half of a 6' tank. They defend their territory aggressively.

Ryan, your pair is literally glowing. Really beautiful fish. How are the eggs looking this morning?

Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
There are three fungused ones this morning. I guess if they're not all gone by tonight they're fertile.

wow just read this entire thread, how in the heck did I miss it last week? I love reading of your rare and educational cichlids Ryan. You turned me on to festivum, dwarf acaras and now servums. Do servums mix well with discus or are they too aggressive?
Good luck to you with this pair, I hope they breed and breed and breed and you can flood the hobby with the beautiful beasts. Great job to you
Re: Heros sp. 'Curare' - potentially the real Heros severus
They like cooler water than Discus mid to upper 75-77 area. Like Discus they need clean water or HITH and Lateral line disease kicks in.
