75 gallon too big to breed?
I just moved a suspected pair to their own tank which is comparable in size to a 75 gallon.
I did paint the outside white and it shares a 40 gallon sump filled with Poret foam with another 75 gallon tank. All I have in the tank is 1 heater, a breeding cone and an air stone.
Is this tank too big for a breeding pair? If so, would it be an option to partition half of the tank of with the blue Poret foam?
Re: 75 gallon too big to breed?
Back in the '80 I breed in a 100 gallon tank and fish with both blue and darkened up really good. The filter use something I haven't seen here in the USA. It ran across the tops full length and I just use ceramic cylinders. Two types. It worked out well. If I remember right I moved them to a small small 20 gallon Mom Dad and fry after free swimming. Got advice from a Japanese breeder.
Re: 75 gallon too big to breed?
Moving the parents and fry to another tanks sound stressful. Did that not cause any problems?
I am thinking about getting a few 20 or 29 gallon tanks for pairs later on, it just seems a little silly now that I have (20) of the 75's set up of which (18) still empty.

29G works well for me now. It was something that just happened to me. Suddenly! Can't remember why I moved them.

Re: 75 gallon too big to breed?
I decided to use 3" Poret Foam to divide a 75 in two compartments. The foam arrived Saturday and today the pair got busy. Too bad they found the heater to be better than the cone :)

Re: 75 gallon too big to breed?
75 gallon aquarium is not too big. I have seen some
breeders using 100 gallon tanks without any dividers. Only problem is removing the fry, their all
over the tank.

I just did the same thing and put a Swiss foam divider in a 75. Hoping pairs on both sides will do their thing.

I don't blame them; I love those heaters too. Shame they don't make them anymore.

The newer versions apparently come with an auto-shutoff if the top drops below horizontal.
Re: 75 gallon too big to breed?
They moved production from Italy to China and changed the design. Time will tell if they are as good as the old ones, but I stocked up a few of the old ones just in case.
