Getting back into the fish (slowly)
So I have started working on my 75 gallon tank a bit so that I can get a nice community tank set up with discus.
I had raised some discus up to six inches, but ended up selling them due to cash flow issues.
What I have done so far:
changed power strip from a six outlet to a 12 outlet
cleaned the tank lids
pruned the Anubias plant (it was pushing my driftwood out of place)
added a 2nd 300 watt heater (now the water stays at a constant temperature)
changed the Marineland HOB filter over to an Aquaclear 110 filter
replaced the strainer on my canister filter.
This tank contains some bristle nose plecos (lemon drop color), and a large Raphael Striped catfish.
I am rehoming the catfish so that I can add some ditherfish (cardinal tetras, rummy nose tetras, maybe some cory cats).
I am going to keep the fish specie from South America even though my plant is from Asia.
I plan to then after some saving of funds to purchase some wild type or tank spawned wild discus.
It has been awhile since I posted here, but I still have some fish.
I also am trying to rehome common colored bristlenose plecos as I want that 20 gallon tank for a growout tank.

Thanks. So far I have added 8 marble hatchets, 8 Cardinal Tetras, 3 German Blue Rams, and 6 Schwartzi cories.
I am feeding and growing out the Cardinals and Hatchets for a bit while I save my money to buy the discus.
I might add some Rummy Nose in when the local fish store gets them back in stock, and out of quarantine. The LFS I use quarantines their fish shipments before selling any fish to the public so that they are only selling healthy stock.
Here is one of the discus I grew out from dime size to adulthood and ended up selling

Very nice looking discus you've raised Dave.
Is this the current set up you plan for your discus ?
If it is I would suggest changing your current gravel with thin layer of sand .

I have thought of that, or scraping the gravel off the top of the substrate and just leaving some of the plant substrate (I don't remember which brand I used back in 2012).
Here is a shot of the Blue Rams that are in the tank (two shown out of three).

Re: Getting back into the fish (slowly)
If you do, be aware of potential poisonous gases locked into the substract. They can kill the fish.
