I believe these are F2's from F1 parents, but I'm not sure, Pat. However, the key is that they have a complete dark stripe that goes from the tip of the dorsal fin, through the body, to the tip of the ventral fin.

DiscusMadness in NJ get some nice Altums .
The last ones they listed were captive breed ..
These guys have been in quarantine for just about a week now. They're a little faded in a bare bottom tank, but you can see these are true altums. They have a complete bar that extends from the tip of the dorsal, through the body, to the tip of the ventral.

They look great Willie and I do not doubt that they are altums. I do know someone who has bred wild altums before in the US and it was a seven year project for him. I suspect the parents of your fish are also tank raised and came from Simon Forkel, the German guy who is successfully raising altum angels.
Pat
I agree with your assessment, Pat. I've been drooling over those Simon Forkel Youtube videos for a while now. Maybe I was able to score his genetics on the "relative" cheap! ;)
Willie
Wille what do you feeding them? Ed
So far, they're eating mysis and Hikari Vibra-Bites. I give them dry food in the morning when they're hungry and feed the frozen stuff later in the day. It only took these guys 24 hours to start feeding.
Willie
They really look superb Willie, I envy you - always loved Altums, although they were rarely available here in our area.
Thanks, Paul. From what I can tell, they are based in Seattle if you fancy a drive.
Willie
Thanks Willie - I don't get down to Seattle very often, but that source is good to know - I'll certainly keep it in mind.
Thanks a lot for the info, everybody! I now have a good plan for the altums and rams, thanks to you all (I took your advice on both fronts), and will keep you posted on my feedback going forward.
And I do suspect that the Altums are from the Simon Forkel bloodline as @Second Hand Pat and @Willie surmised. When chatting with Thomas, he made mention in passing about the parents being from Germany, etc., so this makes sense.
Just had multiple different types of rams arrive from Tom, aka @coralbandit and they all made it in great shape. I have them split up in two QT tanks for now as I let them settle in. Tom was great throughout my encounter with him: excellent communication and it is obvious he takes pride in raising and shipping healthy fish. In this hobby, having fish arrive that are actually healthy and vigorous is invaluable these days. Thanks Tom!
Glad to hear they made it and thank you for the kind words .
I hope you enjoy them for a long time ..
How are those angels doing ?
@coralbandit No Altums yet. I recently prepaid for a batch from Thomas with Shoreline Aquatics and the anticipated shipping date is in February. Gradually introducing fish from QT into the 210 gallon display - already did the typical cardinal tetras, cories, plecos, etc., rams are in QT now, then Altums, then discus...
