Re: Everything you might want to know about fish food.
Hey guys posting here for the first time.
I have few discus fishes, and I was advised not to feed them tubifex worms as they might contain parasites and can cause dropsy.
Although, I have tubifex dry worms, so is this dry food safe?
I feed my discus fish twice a day, morning I feed them tubifex dry worms, and at night Tetrabits.
Should I continue this?
I have been feeding tubifex dry worms, from just 2 days ago, so for now I can say everything looks fine to me.

Welcome to SD! I would recommend you do not use tubifex.. check out this thread and you'll find many more like this one. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showth...hlight=tubifex
Try some FDBW, like from AL on SD.. Much, much better.

very informative thanks for posting
Re: Everything you might want to know about fish food.
I was surprised to see that the OP says that white worms are bad for Discus. I used to feed them daily when I kept Discus, and planned to get a starter culture going before buying some juvies. I've read a lot of other folks, even some Discus hatcheries feed white worms...., so who's right?

I think the "high fat" content of white worms is an old tale. Mike Hellweg visited our club last month and spoke extensively on live foods, their advantages, how to's, and nutritional value. I have his book at home, and he explains a lot of "recipes" for culturing foods, and why they are good for your fish.
I think the key with all live worms is to make sure one fish isn't eating a whole clump of worms. Spread them out in the tank using a worm cone or swishing them in the tank water. If one fish eats the whole clump of worms, it's like a human eating a whole large pizza in one sitting. Do that on a daily basis, and i'm sure you will have health problems.

Great thread. Very enlightening. I especially enjoyed the vitamin info part because I have learnt a lot from it.
Re: Everything you might want to know about fish food.
Even though this started out sometime ago I have found it very informative. I'm very "into" the right nutrition for my pets. I own Great Danes as well and raising them from a pup to adult is not as easy as 1 thinks with protein to calcium ratios & ect...
Re: Everything you might want to know about fish food.
thanks for the nice contribution and summary

Omega3 :))) it's really good for our health. It's highly recommended to have fish each day. Besides, you can use some kind of fish products to keep healthy like your skin or or immune system.
