Growth/parasite/damage identification please!!!
Hi guys,
I've had my discus tank for around a year and have this week added 3 new fish. My brand new ring leopard has developed (within a few days) this white growth on his head. He also has some holes in that area which I'd like to get someone's opinion on.
Any advice GREATLY appreciated!!
Thanks,
Luke

Bacterial node/pimple. More water changes and it will go away naturally.

Thank you so much! I googled it and that's exactly what it looks like.
I think I'm going to like this forum :o

Mr Weasle it is very important to keep your nitrates <10 and be sure to vacuum your substrate and around your plants diligently to keep detritus levels & bacterial counts at a minimum
Re: Growth/parasite/damage identification please!!!
I agree with Francis on the pimple. I'm not sure what to make of the holes.
Re: Growth/parasite/damage identification please!!!
Yes it’s a discus pimple. More water changes. The holes your worried about are natural to discus. I don’t see hith. Next did you qt new discus?
Re: Growth/parasite/damage identification please!!!
You got pus coming out of the pimple? then it's HITH, treat with metro do more water changes more feeding.

So the pimple seems to be clearing up nicely, thanks all. :o
I bought some metro (had to get from a vet here in Australia) and have dosed their food. Still not thrilled with the food recipe I made. Prawns, kangaroo, discus pellets, spinach, pea baby food. My butcher finally got me in a beef heart, so I'll chop that up tonight and add it in.
Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are always 0 in my tank; I'm religious about cleaning and vacuuming the sand.

Hi Weasle and welcome to the forum. You should never have zero nitrates. Be sure the test is still good and follow the direction to the letter. I also noticed in your photos that the eyes on the discus are a bit cloudy. Clean water will help to clear that up.

Re: Growth/parasite/damage identification please!!!
So I THOUGHT I was continuing to have trouble with the tank, some fish not eating, some looking stressed etc.
I've increased water changes and removed a heap of sand from the tank (now just a sprinkling). This morning I found an Anubis leaf covered in eggs!!! Our little kids were almost as excited as us :D
I've now moved the pair into a new 100L bare bottomed tank with a sponge filter. Fingers crossed this goes well.....
