Nice! Care to give more info about your tank and routines?
What strain are those, look very nicely colored!
Nice group! Good to see you back into it....Its been a long long time since the first discus challenge.
Yes, it has been awhile and I am enjoying these once again!
Well, the routine is not advised for a beginner. I will admit, although they are very nice and healthy discus, I do consider them a low cost trial to see if my work schedule will allow me to provide proper care for more exotic strains in the near future.
I am away for up to 4 days per week for work, so water changes are very irregular. I have a auto feeder turned down to low feedings of Color Bits while I'm away. When I return home, I immediately do a 40% water change, followed by 40% once to twice per day when I am home. I don't have storage for aged water at this point, which is why I limit the water changes to 40% tap. Also, while I am home, I supplement their diet with homemade beef heart recipe, Color Bits and blood worms fed up to 5-6 times per day. Temp 83 degrees F.
So far, their health has been great, growth has been steady with no loss of appetite, and what seems to be a very healthy production of feces.
I'm not sure what they technically are, so I will just call them Goldens...
Haven't really checked. As long as they are happy to see me and beg for food, I don't worry too much, lol... Although one time I came home they were very lethargic. Turned out the heater failed and the temp dropped to around 70. A slow increase in temp and they were once again begging!
Happy New Year Brian! Hows the group doing? Any update pics? :D
Sorry, I didn't see your post. Two month update...
Still growing strong, although one is smaller that the rest. It had a poor appetite from early on but finally came out of it with a little heat and salt. It is now very a aggressive eater and the first to greet me at feeding time! The largest is about 5" now.
Their color is much more intense than the photos show.
I really like these discus and it's nice to be back in the hobby once again!Attachment 114078Attachment 114079Attachment 114080
Doing a great job with them Brian. They sure have come a long way in a very short time. Looking forward to further updates on these beauties.
Love the fish. Now I really am thinking of starting another Discus tank....
