I will try this soon once I get a salad shooter thxs
Thanks for the idea Carol,
I am going to pick up some beef heart at my butcher Friday and have them slice it thin. I will have to hand dice it after that.
I have heard of people flash boiling or baking their beefheat. I thought everyone feed it to them raw... nobody cooks food for them in nature (then again they are not eating much beefheart in the amazon :) )
I buy BH at the greocery store and slice it into cubes and freeze it. Then take out a cube and dice it finey before feeding. I have a Salad Shooter that we haven't used in about 15 yrs. I will give this a try. I just made up 3# of Al Johnson's Beef heart receipt yesterday. It is a lot of work but it came out great. By the way, Beef Heart is deliciuos done on a rotisoury over the BBQ. Thank's Carol. This started in 2002, i wonder if she is still reading this.
hi carol, i know the answer linger somewhere here but i'll ask again. can i use food processor? i bought a KAMBROOK food processor to make thai meatballs today and they came with 5 different blades to chop vegies, can i use that to chop the beef heart? or it would come out a disaster?
lol i forgot to check the dates. thanks anyway
only reason why I would get a salad shooter.
I have my two Discus and they will only eat LIVE blackworms. I'd like to get them to eat something else. Do your Discus eat the Beefheart off the bottom of the tank -- or do they get it as it's falling through the water?? Do most Discus eat beef heart? These little guys are very picky eaters. Thanks
yes! glad to have found this thread...the BH was a real mess to the point i wouldn't feed it, Thanks!
Great idea I will have to try this one out, it will cut down on the mess that the other leaves behind. Mine usualyl do a good job at cleaning it all up.
I had this happen before you can always just try to introduce it slowly at first offer it before you give them the worms, they will usually take to it after a few times. If that doesnt work simply cut it out and they will eat the new food eventually. I mostly use tongs and feed mine at that top when it is almost gone I drop it for them to munch on.
Sound good, a lot easier then the way I have been making it!
How big are the pieces? What's the min size of fish to be able to swallow whole?
Good job
Carol has it right, freeze small chunks of clean beef heart, feed through the salad shooter right into freezer bags, smash flat and break off as needed.... My only 2 cents is the drive gear is plastic, they do strip out, so during summer months I pick up 3 or 4 shooters at garage sales at $ 3 or $ 5 each
