Default Eggs!! And they did it while I was travelling...

    Hi everyone,

Some of you know my 80g wild Cuipeuas tank and how I dream about being able to breed them. For months, two of them have been showing breeding signs, but with nothing concrete. I have been travelling for 16 days and in this period a friend did only two WCs. My daughter woke up this morning and found this:

That's right, they laid eggs on Barb's beautiful cone. The tank and the cone are full of algae due to no maintanence, but they seem to like it

I will come home only on Monday. I expect them to eat the eggs or the other fish to eat the fry, but it is nice to know they are getting it right.

Just wanted to share the news

I thought I was taking good care of them. But this shows that they wanted me to diasppear for 16 days so that they could do the job

The bad part is that, since I was not there, I still don't know which one is the female and whether the male did his job or not.

Mauro, it almost looks like there are wigglers on that cone.

I can't ask my daughter to look closer because she left to school and will later travel to a friend's house. She will be back only tomorrow. We might never know what happened

My theory: fewer WCs is one of the techniches to stimulate breeding. The PH must have droped.

Congrats man! Like bars said it almost looks like wiggles on there. I would say the male did a good job. Good luck with them when you get back!

Thanks, Barb. The Brazilian wilds also love you great cones. Your cones are now a global phenomenon

Awesome news Mauro!! Looks like there is wigglers on there so they must have laid 3-4 days ago. Whatever happens you know the pair is fertile. Looking forward to more spawns

A BIG +1. Those are definitely wrigglers in that picture. Good luck to good times ahead.

    Mauro,

classic case, people sometimes want too hard to get babies, pair them off, etc Never leave them alone.

My advice if one of the proven pairs I sell don't spawn, LEAVE them alone, don't do a water change for 4~5 days, don't even feed them.

Do a 40~50% water change after say 5 days and 99 of the 100 times............. Bingo!!!!!

    CONGRATS!!!!!!!

Thank you, Mark and Keith. It is just unbelievable that my daughter would not see the eggs for several days. Well ... I will keep folks posted about future spawns.

Thanks, Hans. Isn't that interesting? It seems that in some instances too much care and attention is not the best way to go

A friend was supposed to come to do a WC today but I told him not to go. He has no experience with fish-keeping and I am afraid he would suck my wriggles with the pump. I thought 3 more days without a WC would not make a huge difference.
