My fish room is 20X20. I have 8 or 9 hundred gallons of tanks. I use a dehumidifier in the winter (it helps heat the room) and a fan in the summer.

i know this is an old thread but im looking into dehumidifier right now.
    specifically this one from costco:

    http://www.costco.com/DeLonghi-50-pi....11768033.html

my wife has mold allergies and has been complaining its worse that i have 350gal of water running in tank now.
is this gonna help solve my issue?

does unit need to be in same room as where tank is?

also is the water that collects dirty? and should not be reused for the tank?
i dont have a drain near the living room where tank is so was gonna run the tube into the storage water container used to replace evaporated water.

Well Dave I have over 600 gals running and I have a very similar de-humidifier and it works great. I have a small hose attached to mine that empties right into the drain in my fishroom floor.

I would suggest keeping in the same room or close to it for optimal performance.

I purchased the Delonghi dehumidifier described above from Costco a few weeks ago and am very pleased with it. I have @250 gallons running in my basement and have been able to keep the humidity level at 45%. It has a large capacity removable tank and a pump that will automatically drain the water if you choose. Best of all it comes with Costco's terrific return policy.

Not sure I would reuse the water Dave. I have never tested it, but I don't want to risk anything.

Maybe use it to water your garden or flowers?

Don't reuse the water. I've never actually tried it, but I have read of people that claimed that the water from the dehumidifier condenses on a copper coil, spends a lot of time there, and apparently it's enough to make fish sick (at least sometimes).. Not worth the risk to save a few gallons of water per day.
