Original Wattley Turquoise strian?

By today’s standard the original Wattley turquoise are lackluster, but they have sentimental value to me. It kind of brings me back to another time. This website is great and I’ve purchased fish from Kenny, Hans and Dan Espinosa. Someone on another thread mentioned there are better options with the currently selection of discus compared to the original Wattley strain and agree. Wattley’s fish attracted me to the hobby in the beginning and now only a few have kept the strain alive. Hopefully I can find some and keep it going another 5, 10 or 20 years. Then again by that time they’ll be a even greater selection of options.

I would not go as far to call them lackluster. They don't have the size and shape of the present day discus. But the colours are awsome. The red eyes against the turq body really sets them apart. Even compared to todays discus.

Its a shame that they are so hard to come by now. The wattley Turquoise where some of the first that really caught my attention when I was book crazy. I spent a good while looking for them also and was never succesful. Beautiful original Strain.

Unless I can see current photo's of specimens in stock and feel comfortable that's what I want, i wouldn't buy the fish.

I am one of the lucky ones to have see all the three pairs here in Ontario in flesh and trust me they look great, a little towards the smaller size may be due to a lot if inbreeding. I think Vern did cross his back to a wild to introduce some fresh blood but not 100% sure.
