Awesome looking Cuipeua Pat. You done yourself proud as they are beautiful.

I hope your breeding program will be successful.

Is it me or my imagination but do I see a thick center bar on a couple? Is there Heckel blood running through them at some point in the spawning cycle of the Cuipeua?

Matt, take good care of those Cuipeua based fish. If I recall correctly collection of Cuipeua has not been approved for this year (Mark, correct me if wrong). I did the same early in the year with this group with not keeping up with WCs when the Tefe were breeding like mad. Me bad but like you fully engaged now.

Thanks Dave, currently there are nine adult Cuipeua in this tank which is 230 gallons. I will be adding the my Cuipeua F1 growouts and one adult Cura which will give me 15 fish total in this tank.

Thanks Jeff, yes most of the solid based ones have a centerbar, some thicker then others. I have no clue about being heckel based or not. Perhaps Mark or others may know.

As far as I know, the 5th bar in some of the alenquer region reds has been a normal trait - especially in the Ica region, thus sometimes called the Ica type. There has never been an heckel found in the alenquer region according to Bleher but who knows what happens during flood season.

Lago Cuipeua is still closed by IBAMA according to my latest update from Brazilian suppliers, anyone posting Cuipeua for sale currently is either labelling Alenquer region fish incorrectly to sell for a premium or were collected last season. Hudson is not the only one allowed to fish for discus in Brazil

    Thanks Jaimie and Yun.

These guys looked awesome this morning and are settling in well. Their color is spot up and little to no bars showing due I'm sure to the natural background in this tank. I will post a video tonight if I can get a decent one.
