I would not recomend to add anymore after you remove the 3, 8 discus for a 55g is a little bit overstocked. Most on here follow the 1 per 10 gal rule... Is the tank BB or planted?

Hi
I have 8 discus currently in a 55G. They are of different sizes ranging from 4" - 6" with the little runt being 3.5".
I have had them for about 3 months, they definitely have grown around 0.5".
The question is I'd like to remove 3 of the discus I don't like and add 3 more.
However I am afraid I will disrupt the pecking order of the discus and have some fish getting stressed out and sick.
I will be removing the little runt of the tank 3.5" who has gotten sick a few times and hasn't grown at all, the biggest discus 6" that chases/pecks the 2nd biggest discus (my favourite) like no tomorrow, and one of the 2 Marlboro discus I have (its fins aren't as nice and it likes to bully the other marlboro around who is much nicer).
I would be adding discus that are around 4.5 - 5".
Hope my explanation is clear.

Oh it is still a growout tank I am moving them to a 90G later on. Most of the discus are still ~4". It is barebottom with 2 sponges and a AC110.
If its a bb tank you can add more discus with good wc

If you were to get more, try to get them from the same person that you got your other Discus from. If you get them from someone else, it can disrupt the pecking order.

IMO,an 55gal is too small for 8 discus. If they are still growing, the pecking order shifts around.Adding other discus will shift it.Getting more discus from the same source will make no difference.
