    Default Pairs in the works

Currently I have two pairs I'm trying to confirm. The first pair is a blue diamond pair I'm trying to force. I've seen a little cleaning and some shimmying but nothing to major. They have been together for about two weeks now so I'm just going to let time takes its course.

The second pair are SS blues. I was hoping to try to force pair them once I got another 20H but they seemed to have found each other in the community tank by some crazy chance. With this pair there is a lot of cleanup shimmying and bowing going on with these guys.

Brandon, place the BDs in the community tank and the SS blues in the breeding setup until you get the second 20. This may allow you to confirm the SS sooner and help to form a stronger bonding with the BDs. Good luck with both pairs and I too await with Keith on the outcome.

Thanks Keith and Jeff! Pat, thanks for the advice. I was thinking about playing musical tanks with them this morning or later tonight.

Bad news I'm not at home to watch to confirm to see if the other is fertilizing or not. My pigeon pair also laid eggs again tonight. Ba news is they have fry attached still. Hopefully they will still be there when I get back so ican pull them and try to salvage them.

The other fish doesn't look too engaged in that photo, unfortunately.

Agreed Keith. It may just take some time. Mandi said while the confirmed female was laying the one in the background was busy chasing off all the rubber neckers in tank.

Well just got home and eggs are gone in the community tank already. Unfortunately I wasn't home to see if who ate the eggs. The pigeon pair only has two or three still attached so not worth the hassel IMO to try to salvage any of them. I'm going to move the two possible pairs into tanks next to each other to hopefully spark interest in the blue diamonds to want to spawn.

Sorry to hear that Brandon. So you don't paint the sides of your tank to keep them separated from seeing other pairs?

When the tanks went on the stand I wasn't planning on more pairs at that moment so I didn't paint the sides. I do have a piece of cardboard I place in between the tanks most of the time.

Personally I'd put the BD pair in the community tank rather than a breeder if the female has yet to lay eggs.

I don't paint tank ends either, I like pairs being able to see the fish in the next tank at times.

I find them being able to see each other makes them more territorial, and likely to spawn,to a point. In my experience, sometimes they get a little too nuts and eat the spawn.Thats why I like to be able to slide something inbetween the tanks after eggs are laid. Also,I dont leave them to see each other until then.Sometimes they get real aggressive and keep attacking the glass.Depends on the pairs, but as a general rule,I dont paint the sides of my tanks.

    Default Pairs in the works

Skipped WCs tonight to have movie night with mandi which is a rate treat. A couple days go I moved all possible pairs back into the community tank so I can set up the new tanks for pairs. Went down to turn lights off and found one of my blue SS siting on a clutch. This was the one who wasn't to interested in the happenings last time. I guess we'll see if they are there in the morning.
