I've seen breeding tanks as large as 75gal for just a pair all the way down to a 20gal for a pair. I personally use 20 or 29gals for pairs.
I have 2 pairs formed from my current discus collection and I was considering starting up a bare bottom breeding tank. What size would you recommend for this? I will have to grow them out in this tank as well after I return the pair to the display tank.
Thanks
Jeremy

For that dual purpose use I would probably use a 29 gallon.
Well shows how much I read, I missed the growing part. You might consider something like a 75gal then, if anything you could separate it into breeding tanks with foam. Also is a good growout size.

They have a very reasonable new 47g with wooden stand for $150 on sale at my LPS but the measurements are 36X12X22. Im worried about the 12 inch depth but I like the height. There is a 27 cube for alittle more but that dosent seem to be an adequate grow out tank. Most tanks unless your getting into 50+ appear to only have a depth of 12 inches. Is that okay?
He that's fine. If you go with the 47 you am an use a poret foam divider to cut the tank size down especially during attachment.
Good enough
