Problem

1. Please explain the problems with your fish/when and how they started

I posted before about a few of my fish being darker and there tail fins shredded. Its been a week since treating with Furan 2 for the reccomended dosage and period but the two fish are looking worse then ever.... The ones fin looks worse now and instead of a white haze around his fin tail its now black and its expanded across his lower and higher body fins as well now..

I bought a new pump and one of the pieces the guy gave me at home depot started rusting and I didnt know till after I pumped a cloud of yellow into my tank initially.... I have done two 90-95% water changes since yesterday to get it out of the water but one of the fish looks bad...Im not sure if its the rust thing but he hasnt been looking good for a while now. There are two that are like this but one is way worse then the other.




2. Symptoms (i.e. turning dark, excess slime, not eating, clamped fins, flashing, darting, clamped gills, white/yellow/green poop, hiding, headstanding or tailstanding, white on tips of fins, rotting or fungus, blisters/ white zits on fish, bloated, cloudy eyes, wounds)

He is propping himeself against things at the moment and acting strangely. He usually hovers near the bottom of the tank but now he is at the top propping himself against things.








3. What medications/ treatments that you have already tried and results. Include dosages and duration of treatment.

Treated with Furan 2 over week ago now

56 gallon tall, 8 juvies



5. Water change regime/ how long has tank been running/ bare bottom or gravel/ do you age your water?
75% aged water treated with prime as well, bare bottom tank.

Anyone got a clue what to do or what it is thats causing this :/?

I would say its the rust but the fish has been bad for a while now :/

Turn your temp down slowly over a few days no reason to keep it that high.
How often do you change the water you said 75% but you didn't mention how often?
I dont usually recommend this but add some carbon to take out any toxic stuff in the water.

What are you feeding them? How often?
is the temp in your age barrel colder than the temp in the tank?
Is your tank cycled?

Tank is cycled, temp is a degree or two off at most as I have temp controls on both + thermometers. Feeding 5+ times daily freeze dried blackworms with baby spinach(tried to get them on something they wont go) Water change daily.

make sure the storage tank is one degree warmer than what you want in your tank. Its better to add warmer water as a rule to your tank when doing a water change. After doing a Furan treatment in the tank you could have killed off what good bacteria you had going. IMO the discus in the photo looks a little ill formed Im not sure where you got the fish or how long you had him but he is not forming correctly. I would keep the temp. at around 82 or 83 the reason in my opinion most people fail with Discus is they keep the tanks at a very low ph and high temps which is a breeding ground for bacteria if the tanks are not mantained correctly. As far as food you really need to start introducing foods other than FDBW they need more of a balanced diet. Its like eating Big Macs every day LOL....Josie

I tried, I starved them for days trying to get them to switch over to something else but they wont take anything, I tried frozen bloodworms, tetra colour bits, beefheart and a growth food from spectrum.

how did you cycle your tank?

How did you cycle the tank? and also a pump from home depot?

I did a fish cycle. That was aug/sept tho
