Agree Mishka and good way to clean some tank with a little relief on the power bill.

Questions: you will be able to see the discus only from above, right? Is it possible to add a transparent window in the pool so that you can see the discus? Just wondering...
Thanks Mauro and you are correct. Will only be able to see from above. I would love a window but could add serious cost to the price of the pool.

Do you want to setup something like this?
Certainly not at first and would have to heat the pools in the winter. Could be one way to make discus profitable in the US.

There you go Pat, discus farm in your own backyard. Keith, Bill, Brandon and myself will come down and help you scoop them out like in the picture.
Sounds like fun Jeff, Pat the fish farmer.

I like running my own equipment. Beside this would be all above ground.

OK guys, this is in the works for this summer. We are talking a 12 foot round above ground pool with 33 inch sides...about 1700 gallons. I need to design a filter for this. Nandi and I were talking about a brute can with some sort of media (like rocks) where the water is pulled into holes punched along the bottom of the brute can with a pond pump inside the can pushing water out of the top of the can into the pool. I have never had a pond before so open to comments/suggestions on a filter/flow for this thing.
Your discus are talking to you....are you listening

Might what to check out something called hydro corn, not sure about the name, they use in hydroponics, baked clay balls, cheap comes in fifty pound bags. Very porous. Not sure about the name though.

I'd look into the different types of things people use for koi pond filtration. Once upon a time I had a 55 gallon drum with settlement chamber at bottom up through several layers of matala and bio on top. I really like the K1 moving beds too that I've seen people build.
