Sorry to see this Alan. Back when I lost fish documented in the "Very Sudden Sick" thread my fish looks like this right before they died.
from one day to another this is what i find in my tank
what the hell??!!
she was of perfect health the day before. i even had guest over that couldnt stop raving about her. i turn the lights off early and this is what i find in the morning. im still in a stage of shock. i want to know if there was anything i could do to prevent this and prevent it from happening to the rest of my fish
thanks guys i appreciate it.

pat did you ever find out what was wrong with them? i mean i didnt even get a chance to look at symptoms, it just died. how the hell can this happen so fast. my main worry is w.e this is spreading to the rest of the fish
Would the dark area be bruising/trauma of some sort? Is it possible that she got spooked and slammed into something in the tank?
I'm sorry to see this happen. It's hard when your favorite fish are fine one day and suddenly sick or gone the next. Hopefully it's more of a physical injury and not an illness or water issue that will affect others.
Alan, lets hope Ryan is correct on this. Regarding my issues in working with Andrew Soh the best guess was an internal of some sort.
extremely hard. while i was out last night my dad did say he heard a big spook go on in the tank. but for it to get bruising there? it would have to hit itself on a akward angle.
i had done a water change day before but every other fish is extremely happy so i doubt its the water.
pat internals sounds possible. but what couldve happened. maybe a gull bladder popping?? idk man im still so pissed off. i dont want to find another fish like her. i want her
Check this out. Might be why.

Thanks dick. I think that narrows it down quite a bit. A pinched nerve or internal parasites. But wow. Still such a sudden death for parasites or a nerve
At first thought it was stuck behind heater. . Now I agree with Ryan

Alot of times they will turn black like that from Neurological trama...its not so much a bruise as we might get when hit , but more like a "stroke" in humans causes loss of nerve control. Think of it like damaged nerves...and yes... if a fish freaks out and crashes into something this can happen. I had it happen over the years a time or 2...I have even had them turn black like that and then snap out of it and be normal after being spooked.
Sorry you lost that fish, she looked very nice.

Fish hit hard in something, that's my guess also.

Sorry about your fish. Are you going to get a replacement?
So sorry for your loss Alan. My first impression was possibly a bruise or burn like stuck behind a heater but after the other possible causes listed above I'm really not sure. Pinched nerves & neurological trauma are way above my pay grade. Better luck in the future. "T"
