Default New Fish Room Under Construction

So I think it is time for me to post my progress on completing my fish room.

This is the area I am working with, it's in the storage side of my finished basement.

This is where my sink, RO/DI filter and aging tubs will be.

The sink is in!! Don't ask me why I put an S trap in. I was scratching my head wondering the same thing when I was done and looking at my work.

RO/DI unit mounted and ready to roll. Still debating getting a pump to increase the PSI to the unit.

Here is everything for this area of the room in place

Here is where the magic will happen. All cleared out and ready for some electrical work.

    Can anyone say electrical supplies!

First run of conduit in. This run is for lights and the whole circuit will be on an industrial timer.

Circuits are going in. I added 4 20Amp GFI circuits to the room. 3 at the tanks and 1 at the sink.

All circuits for the tanks are in.

Here is the circuit near the sink.

First rack turned into electrical work bench.

A little out of chronological order but my buddy Jim helping build the racks. This was late at night and we were feeling no pain!

2 racks almost done. 2more to go. They will be in U shape along the wall.

Quarantine tank is setup in the finished part of my basement just in case the fish I want become available.

Here is my current show tank. It's a 125 gallon that used to hold my 8 year old Albino Oscar that passed in early March when I was out of the country for work. Wife says she didn't do it!! This will be moved to the basement in a few weeks and be setup as a planted tank. Will put large adult discus in there after grow out in the fish room. There is still a 14"-15" sailfin pleco in there that I just found a new home for along with peppered corys, several blue rams and a few cardinal tetras (pleco seems to be eating them)

Well this where I stand currently. I am hoping to finish the racks this weekend and get the rest of my tanks from Petco before the $1/gal sale ends at he end of the month. Then it's drilling the tanks, plumbing and getting the air line system plumbed.

I want to thank everyone on this forum for the great information and I will update this thread with my progress.

Looks pretty good with the exception of the electrical. I'm an electrician so I'm a bit over critical.

Great area for a fish room. Looking forward to seeing pics when complete. But as an electrician i have to ask you to please please please buy some 1/2 " greenfield and cover those circuits going from the boxes to the panel. Other than that.....great job and good luck with it

I am not an electrician and this probably the largest project I have ever taken on. I am pretty happy with the outcome except for the wires running from the panel to the first box. I just googled the greenfield conduit and am going to order some and install it. I was wondering what I should have used. Thanks for the tip!

So here is my progress to now.

All racks completed and lights hung. I drilled the tanks I have, getting more tomorrow. Linear air pump is ordered. I need to get insulation for the tanks and paint them. The. Install the air system and plumbing and I should be good to go. Almost there!!

Looks awesome! Very clean and neat. The only thing I would not have done, and maybe you can correct before you get much further, is remove the plywood. You're going to have water all over the place and the ply will hold it and eventually rot. If you must use it, paint or treat it.

    Good luck!

Now that looks good!! Racks look nice! I agree I would treat the plywood or just add a cut sheet of insulation to the bottom of the tanks. Its very inexpensive.
