Me!

So Ive realized over time that nothing is ever going to happen with this hobby in this part of the country unless someone steps up and at least gives it a go. The idea right now will only be to get an idea of overall interest, and kind of make a tally of the discus people located within this corner of the US. There are tons of great people and clubs but none of them reside in this area.... Its time we work together to change that.
SO any of you that are interested please contact me via PM or a response here to this thread. I hope to get something up and running within the next month if we get enough people jumping on board. It doesnt matter to me if you've been keeping discus 2 days, 2 months, 2 years, or over 2 decades. The idea of the club would be to have a network of hobbyists that meet on bi-annual, or quarterly intervals, and in additon to that begin to throw discus shows and who knows maybe move right on up to a NADA show eventually.
I havent seen many from these parts, but if you are, or are even close and willing to make the effort, lets get this going!

SO happy we got a taker already! That gives me hope! I totally forgot you had asked me a while back about possibly stopping by in spokane sometime, if that ever happens your more than welcome to see the fish room. And Ill have fry available soon!
Will everyone please also list the state they are from, and the city if they are comfortable with that please, so I can get a general idea of the area this group would cover.
Also if you'd like, let me know in a PM whether you would be interested in just being a member and attending meetings. Or if you would be willing to help plan and orchestrate, meetings, shows, speakers, newsletters, and such for events. I cant do this alone, and would appreciate all the people willing to help make this dream a reality.

I am on the other side of the state but my in-laws would be extatic if I went to Spokane for a meeting because then they can spend time with me. However, driving over the pass during winter is a no go....
I am interested in helping but I am currently the VP of the Health Psych Program Club at school so, I would need to balance the two. However, I think it is a worthy endeaver. I wish NADA would come over here and this group can help to acheive this. I would love to meet some other discus people since I have never met one.

Im guessing Ill have to give up having meetings in Spokane, unless it proves to be centrally located but those are all details to follow. Hopefully we can come up with a group first and we can take it from there. But on a personal level regardless of all this, I'd love to meet you and show you the fish room and such. Ive met a few discus people, just none of the big crazy ones with whole rooms and such up in this area. Hopefully they will start popping out of woodwork!

Good luck guys! Ours has taken off and looks like we're going to have a good turn out for meeting #1
Good luck with your venture. I like seeing local clubs popping up.

Bumb... for those of you who click the "new posts" button this may get annoying but I desire to make sure everyone possible see's this and since there are relatively few apparently in this area this may take some work. If your from the northwest, even Northern Cali, lets give this a go. There is NO reason the rest of the country should have clubs and this area should not....

Aha, I found you Drew! <pats self on back>
Count me in. I know one other person out here in Idaho who raises discus, so I'll see if I can hunt him down and let him know. Oh wait, BoiseDiscus is here on SD too. Haven't seen him in awhile on the forums, but I'll send him a PM.

Hey Drew & Toni,
Good luck getting things rolling. The advice and help you two have given over the last few months has been outstanding and spot on. So Drew, I'm going to learn how to make babies from you (by watching your breeding progress/program ) and Toni, I'm learning how to grow big kids from you. You guys are going to be great mentors for a lot of people. Cliff, John and I may have to have the next BAD (Bay Area Discus) meeting with you guys.

I'll meet with you guys ONLY if you promise not to bring along any of Drew's Discus baby making porn. LOL (Oh gosh, sometimes I just crack myself up)
Actually, I think it'd be really cool to meet you Bay Area folks. We'd all be on our best behavior of course and I'd be very boring company because I'm quiet as a church mouse....no really, I am...honest!

I think this is a great idea and would love to be a part of it! It's hard to find many people in this area who are seriously interested in the hobby, so this would definitely fill a void. Thanks Toni for the heads up. Don't know how I missed this post...
Chris
Yay, you found the post! Just think Chris, maybe we'd actually have a network of discus friends to meet up with, trade knowledge (and fry) with, etc. I've been shocked at how few people in our area are into discus.
