Do you have hard water? Is that why you want to use these products. Black water extract makes your water soft and acidic. If you're not raising young discus then try it out but if you are then it's not necessary with the amount of water changes.
Was thinking about getting one of these for my discus. Anybody ever used one or had any luck or back luck with them? Just wondering. Thanks.

Discus don't need to be in soft and acidic water. They'll be perfectly happy in hard water
I have 3 month olds. My water is hard out of the tap but it has settled in the tank to soft but not like really soft. Ph out of the tap is over 8 but tank water settled to 7.2. I was just curious if anybody had tried it. It looked interesting.

You can give it a try once your discus are adults. That's a pretty significant ph shift. Are you aging your water? How many water changes are you doing? What percentage? Just curious 7.2 Is not really soft water.
No

To answer the question asked....No I've never used either product
I've used both, but like the Kent better. Mainly used it on my wilds, and at times reconstituting RO water. Can be expensive if you change a lot of water...Bill
No I dont age the water it comes straight from the tap. We do 20% changes every other day and the ph never shifts because we dont do huge changes I guess. I just dont have the resources or the space for aging water. I always check the water before and after and it never changes. The tap water may be different now I was testing it after putting in the tank when I was cycling my new filter before adding fish. I havent actually tested the tap water except for ammonia. But they do fine. Everybody eats well and swims around ok. I had never heard of anyone trying the blackwater stuff but its always on backorder so I figured somebody must use it lol.

Like William Palumbo and many others that have wild discus, that's mainly the ones that use it quite often.
Oh my... pH level does not determine softness of water..
It don't come out of tap hard then turn soft as it ages

pH is acidic or alkalinity of water
