On what ratio Methylene Blue/Gallon should be used in breeding tank to avoid fungal growth? suggestions pls..
Some use 10 drops per gallon or 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons or 4 ounces per 240 gallons ... it changes water to very dark blue if you use this ratio. If your tds is right you will get more fungal growth, fungal doesn't grow much in hard water

tried half teaspoon/10gallon. looks bit dark blue, lets see.. thx
If you are like me... I don't use RO water and no Methylene Blue either. I don't get fungal growth since our Chicago water is hard and hatch rate isn't bad either. I've even manage 100+ wriggler the last round but because of my inexperience I did too much daily WC that killed off free swimmer and also prevented the free swimmer to attached to the parents.
Very interested to know what happens after hatching. I was told that albinos light color do not attract the new hatchlings so love to here how these guys do if hatched.

Tds of my tap is around 160. No luck with this pair so far, they just lay every week and eat the eggs/no wrigglers yet. Last time i was pretty close, i believe few a of them are black eggs. But gone!!!
Sorry to steal this topic. So you don't really need ro water to breed discus? My tap water is 190 ppm. So is all depend on the male is strong enought?
I'm not into S breeding and no expert yet,but some males are pretty strong enough in tds around 160ish in my experience. If water is hard, ppl normally uses RO,it can reduces the tds of the water which makes the egg membrane soft and thus increasing the hatch rate.
Three changes this time and waiting for the results
1. Added RO to reduce tds
2.Few drops of MB to prevent fungus
3.Mesh,since these guys very good egg suckers
And special thanks to Mirinda(ChicagoDiscus) for these meshes.

Finally.. Wrigglers on tap water by these guys too. Decent hatch rate,MB does the trick. Very good opportunity to use foster parents to grow out these guys, since i have a parallel spawn going on.. Lets see..
Well that's convenient, best of luck with them.
