There is always next year for me saving started now... I already bought a new DSA tank, but it seems like I will have to wait a year before I can fill it up , now whether it will be cuipeas, tefe or heckel, I guess I can have the whole summer to ponder that

Nice wilds, i hope this is it with the whirling disease. What are your water parameters?

I kept them all in hard tap water, ~ 200 TDS even with a canister full of peat. I slowly wean them by keeping them in half ro and half tap (which did induce them to spawn) to all hard tap eventually.

You can youtube it, essentially the fish swim frantically in circle, hitting everything in the tank, and eventually die within a few days after. We are still not know what cause it exactly and no known treatment as far as I known.

I believe one of the causes of whirling disease is Cryptobia. Cryptobia has a intracellular phase, which may affect the brain. Just a hunch. The last I checked there was no cure, however some have had success treating with dimetridazole. Cryptobia was found in 98% of 60 chiclids tested at the Shedd aquarium. You can read about here. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/vm077, which is one of my sources for what I have shared here.

So far no one knows the reason for whirling. One thing stands out dough,...the relationship between whirling and large water changes. I recommend to do water changes of 2 to 3 times a week at a maximum of 30% to 40%. Larger water changes can trigger whirling.

Great looking wild fish. The wild fish, and I keep both, definitely have something that domestic fish do not.

What's your quarantine procedure? I brought two wilds back from Florida in my luggage and while one is eating the other is not. Both have been given metro and prazipro and they are both in separate quarantine tanks. While I never feed live blackworms, and in the intervening years that I've stopped feeding blackworms they've become very difficult to find, I will try this to get the one that is not feeding to feed by feeding them this.

Also can you send me contact info. for Mark if I should want to purchase from him?

Winn, FTS is beautiful. I love the background and the nice clunky piece of wood. Kudos for not centering it in the tank.
