Default Need Help with Back Up Power unit

Hi, my name is Josh. I'm currently running 56 gallons tank with Fluval 406 canister filter, Air pump and Fluval heater 300w. I want to get a back up power unit just in case the power is out. I can't have generator though. I need to get something that able to get 5 to 6 hours while no power. Mainly for the heater which is 300w and canister filter I think is 23w. Please help me out. Thanks

    Hi

I have a UPS to kick-in on 50% of my equipment & I have double of everything I need. For true redundancy, you need to allow for the chance that the UPS itself might fail - or have 2 UPS units.

Here's a link to the APC calculator to work out which unit you need for a given load & standby time:
    http://www.apc.com/tools/ups_selector/US/en/home/load

You should add 50% onto your power requirements.

To save you time, the unit it recommends is this:
    APC Smart-UPS XL 1000VA USB & Serial 120V + (3)SUA24XLBP Battery Unit
Looks like retail is about $1778

Not cheap, but APC are good & it is the 6 hours runtime that is costing you the money.
