Some of my friends in reef had gem tangs.
The most expensive fish i ever kept was rhinopias scorpionfish. It was about $1000.
Anyone one heard of a gem tang? Not as rare just $$. they had three gem tangs $2500 a pop. Not anywhere as bad as peppermint angelfish but still not cheap

Wonder if they insure fish at that price.
I have had plastic fish in my tank. They never hide, they do not dirty the tank, they do not bother the other fish and they do not eat much. I did notice that whatever my water conditions were they never breed!
The peppermint angels are awesome. I hope one day they become prolific enough and breed in captivity and common enough in the trade for their price to come down. Right now they are one of the rarest fish in the trade.

Ok, we cannot let saltwater folks think they are all that!
we need the breeder folks on here to start making the Peppermint discus!
I looked at the pics and watched the video,no doubt he is cool lil guy.
But seriously 25grand for a fish? wew i gotta pass.
KCCO!
saltwater ppl already think they are ALL THAT. but coming from reef myself, I dig discus better...
its not about how peppermint looks. its about how hard is it to catch em. divers risk their life to get em.
And people whine about paying $85 for a 5" or gaff at paying $250 for jumbo. Lol

Someone had to be the first to own. They needed to know how much someone would be willing to pay. Maybe in 10 years I will be able to afford one for my reef.

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

I don't think I'd ever get a fish that expensive...would be afraid to kill it..and afraid of taking vacations..let's hope the guy who bought it knows what a water change is lol
