EMERGENCY MY TANK JUST CRACKED

My tank just cracked. The rear glass from top to bottom. It is 150 gallon, 25" high. I removed 25% of my water and it stopped leaking. I have Marineland aquarium sealant. The instructions on that are empty and clean tank. I have no place to put my fish except my bath tub. Can I put the sealant on with water in the tank? Can I buy a piece of glass and silicone that to the outside? My cell is 917 698 1876

So sorry I'm not a little closer, I'd lend you a tank or stock tank. I don't know about repairing that tank without replacing the whole piece. I'd head to Tractor Supply, Home Depot or a similar store to get something (Brute Containers, stock tank) to house them in until you figure this out. No way in the tub, with all the cleaning products, etc residue. I'd be looking for a new tank if I were you. Anything on Craigslist today? Sorry this is happening to you, it's a fear of mine with all the big tanks I have set up.

yes i had the same thing happen to me, on my 125 i bought a new 55g and put them in there and did twice daily changes, but i also scraped down with a blade and resealed the tank, it wasnt that hard !!! honest thought it would be harder, dried it with a heat lamp after emptying or actually just a normal bulb in heat lamp clip on, and then resealed you tube is your friend. took a couple of days to dry then test by adding water. i thought i could use my aging barrel since its already heated to the right temp and its the water that goes into the tank…but i ended up calling my local fish store and getting a deal but a big black trash aging barrel is what i use and thats a spare tank if needed ! my bath tub leaks but if the temp is constant then your ok with sponge filters. craigslist great idea, always good to have a spare !

I sent you a PM. I want to try the outside repair. Please call me! My tank has 1/2 inch thick glass and is 22" high. 150 gallons. I removed about 30% of my water, reducing the pressure on the glass and it stopped leaking. How big and how thick should my outside repair glass be? 22X18 or something like that? Should I get another piece to place inside my tank to be held in place by water pressure? Will this repair work long term? Any special clamps to hold the repair glass in place?

Have been traveling all day. Saw your post while I was at the airport. Very concerned. Update us on what you did? Sorry to hear this. It is also one of my great fears as well. Take care and hope you have solved some of the problem.

I will attempt to repair the crack from the outside tonight using a piece of 12X22 glass, aquarium sealer and a clamp as suggested by Ryan at rdiscus. Ryan says it works! I will certainly post the results. It seems like it should work especially because my crack is not too wide, with 30% of my water removed from my tank the water pressure is down and the leak has stopped. It has been about 12 hours and no leaks now If I did not hear from Ryan I was going to try the outside repair anyway but with different clamps than he suggested.

On craigslist the other day a guy from LI was giving away a 150 gal check it out I'll look and see if I can find it again

Jeff, it is the back glass.
tbie, my 150 gallon is a custom size 60X24X25 and I have a custom stand. If the repair does not work I will either down size or not have Discus anymore.
