Default new to the world of discus

    55 gallon discus setup
    • 2-3 t5 ho lights
    • 90 gallon marineland filter
    • Organic mix potting soil
    • Gravel( to cap off the dirt)
    • 250w heater
    • 55 gallon tank
    • Possible co2 dossing

I would like to create a semi-heavily planted aquarium with a nice aquascape including wood and rock. In the tank I would like to have 6 Discus a school of about 10 cardinal tetra or rummy nose and 2 bristle nose plecos, if needed I can add another 70 gallon filter.
I would like to get some feedback on the way I want to set this tank up. I’m fairly experienced in the planted tank/community and have done saltwater and reefs. But have always wanted to do discus so any info I may need would be greatly appreciated.

I would say being planted a 55 would be way over stocked. If you really want to go planted try discus with a bare bottom tank at first then move on to plants. 55 gals is fairly small especially if heavily planted

I was always told 1 discus per 10 gallons of water, my 55 has 4 sub-adult discus and they are out growing their tank. I will need to move them soon.

Hi fishkid and welcome to Simply. A 75 would be a better choice and you can add plants later once you get a handle on discus.
Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
