Default Welcome to the Neighborhood Greg (Tankster)

Welcome to the neighborhood Greg and hope you find the place to your liking. You should be mostly moved in but if you have any questions please holler back.

Greg has been into aquariums a good bit of his life. His recent inspiration was the little tank in his son's room and now he is here ready to tackle discus. Brave man indeed. Greg became disabled a couple years ago if you see him in any of the local stores be sure to say hi and offer a helping hand (or leg).

    Again welcome Greg,
    Pat

    Thanks Pat,

The Forum is named after a Grateful Dead song, Attics of My Life, from The American Beauty album. I thought it was an appropriate name since this is where I'm going to keep all my "stuff".

    A little more about me:
I'm 48, married, and the father of three great teenage boys. I've been into aquariums on and off my whole life. Recently my son asked for an aquarium for his room. The purchase ignited a passion for me and one I needed and have been looking for, for quite some time. Since surviving a major MVA almost 3 years ago, I am permanently disabled... I can still get around but have to use those silly carts whenever when I go to the big box stores. Anyway, my wife and I used to climb mountains and go on these grueling 3 and 4 day, 20 mile back country hikes. It was my passion and I can no longer do it. That little tank in my sons room ignited my new passion... Thank god
    Greg

Hey there Greg, glad you are on board. I can identify with you totally.
MVA almost 3 years ago, I am permanently disabled... I can still get around but have to use those silly carts whenever when I go to the big box stores. Anyway, my wife and I used to climb mountains and go on these grueling 3 and 4 day, 20 mile back country hikes. It was my passion and I can no longer do it.
About two and half years ago my spine was shattered and left me paralyzed from the waste on down. Thanks to a top notch neurosurgeon who wanted my case because it was so unusual, and if I survived the 8 hour surgery, he'd take me on. He put enough metal in my back to make me partly bionic. I am walking again to all the doctors amazement - walk a bit funny still - but plan to do some sort of climbing and hiking again. These fish kept me form depression, and made me move in ways the PTs could never have imagined.

So I get how an old passion like this can circumvent physical and emotional trauma.
