Awesome... looking forward to seeing the pictures...
A little info about what I have going on here in Birmingham, AL:
I've kept discus for a decade, but always in a planted/community environment where breeding was not a goal. In September 2013 I decided to convert my "fish room" to a "discus room." I've been breeding and selling fancy swordtails, angels, and wild type bettas for years. But the discus are just so special…..so, here we go.
THE FISH
The adult fish I have as potential breeders are:
Proven Stendker brilliant turks
Proven Spotted/Snake Pigeons
Proven galaxy/mosaic turk (M) and red turk (F)
Proven altum turk (M) and scorp (F)
Stendker cobalts…not exactly proven, but the female lays eggs and the male is definitely male…just no success yet
2 Stendker silver pigeons (one is definitely female)
2 Stendker fire reds (one is definitely female)
Stendker red turks- 4 of these, none seem to be female, or they just haven't figured it out yet.
Two proven female gorgeous reds from Ricky Lim, and two proven white leopard males…..hopefully they will get something figured out soon
All of the above fish were purchased as adults.
In addition I have a newly formed pair from grow out, the female is a Piwow turk from Josie and the male is a red turk that I got from Gabe Posada (and he says it is from original wattley lines, regardless it is a beautiful fish).
There are about 30 other random subadult fish here, some from Kenny, some from Tony Peng, and some are from Tony Tan. Oh and six green tefes from snookn21.
THE TANKS
I'm pretty limited on space here, and my 'discus room' was actually intended to be a dining room. But I live alone, so why do I need a dining room?
I have 8 29gal that are painted, these are for the pairs.
I have 8 55gal, half are planted, and half are BB. Obviously the planted ones are 'community/recess' areas for adults who need a break. The 4 BB 55's are growout. My grow out tanks get 80-90% WC daily, as do any breeder tanks with fry or eggs. Otherwise, the breeders and planted tanks get 50% every-other-day. I have an RO system, but I only use RO for breeder tanks until eggs are hatched. The tap water here in Birmingham is of exceptional quality, albeit hard.
Quarantine is a breeder 40 that is divided by glass into 4 sections, each with adequate filtration and air.
So I will use this thread to post pictures of everybody in the fish room and to document the development of the two spawns that I am raising now and any more that happen. I also have about a million pb marble angel fry from exceptionally nice parents, so they may get their photos on here too.
Photos to come!

Sounds great but you might want to think about a few more grow out tanks...with all those Stendkers you are going to need them.

I agree about the homestead, Skip. But when I bought a membership, I didn't really intend to share a whole lot of photos and updates of my stuff. One thread will be MORE than enough space, I'm sure!
I "think" about more grow out at least ten times a day! Hopefully I will just pick the 2 or 3 pairs that I like the best, sell or give away the others to the friendly folks on Simply, and convert the new tank space to grow out. In a perfect world I would live in a house boat, on a nice warm discus lake
That's cool words. looking forward Lindsay!!!
so why do I need a dining room/kitchen/bed room? just need a fish room

Do the pigeon parent have peppering ? I see 2 different color on fry, one is clean and other is dark ...
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
The parents are actually really clean, although they are both evidently hets for PB. What's fun about them is that they both carry albino as well (didn't know this until their first spawn was large enough to tell). I started a thread on it because I saw the same thing you did. About half the fry are dark……

Here are a couple of photos of older sibs (they were 5-6 weeks old in these photos) of those free swimmers:
I cropped an zoomed a picture of an albino to show its red pupil. And I don't know at this point if the really pale fry are albino or what. One reason why documenting their development on here will be interesting.
And here are a couple more of the older fry on their 2 month birthday:
For this spawn, only two of the "clean" ones survived. And, from what I can tell, those are the two surviving albinos. I started this recent spawn on bbs really early, and the "clean" ones are holding their own. A couple more spawns and I might figure out what's going on and what, if anything, the two early phenotypes mean down the line.
Thanks for looking!
Lindsay
Not sure if the first two are albino or not, but they're Pigeon base, and the last one is not ... Interesting
Ryan
Just curious, how the albinos are identified in juveniles? Any pictures?
