This could be called the song of the Bare Bottom Boys, and the reason I switched. Substrate made me feel like this.

    I'll quote Rick...

    "HOGWASH"

It's not having substrate that causes issues, it's when you have substrate and don't keep it clean. Two completely different things.

No offense intended. In my case, once it was contaminated I couldn't get it clean. I'm not arguing that it can't be done- healthy tanks with plants and substrate. I'm just saying they have been the bane of many a fish keeper, myself included.

Also, the link was meant to be humorous. I'm sure I don't speak for all bare bottom keepers either.

I agree. I've seen posts in other threads recently where even pool filter sand for substrate was blamed for being the carrier/cause of parasites in a tank. Poor substrate maintenance and/or improper QT was probably the cause, not an inert bag of dry silica.

Each setup has its pros & cons, but let's keep facts & opinion separate from misinformed speculation, please.

I amended my statement above to reflect only my opinion and no one else's.

Not you skip. When I first tested it there was an add on utube before the video played. There was a button labled skip add to go right to the clip. The add might not always be there.

Skip, if I was as creative as you I would have found a live clip instead of a still shot.

No offense taken at all. It was just a bit of a blanket statement is all. BB is definitely easier to keep clean, but a substrate on the bottom can also be kept clean with some effort. To each his own. I have both.

Maybe. Lets see, I will take a small stick and carfully move it front to back working from one side to the other. You take the same stick and do the same thing in my bare bottom tank and then we will compare water clarity.

We can do that, but yours won't be any clearer. I stir mine up very well on a regular basis during cleaning and water changes to keep it clean. If it isn't clear, I clean more.

She's fine. She looked at the table like it jumped out & bit her or something..
