Default Can't keep them out of the way of the siphon tube!

Damn! Got another one today while siphoning the tank debris this evening. This is the big red turquoise - they have to be right around my hand. You would think they would be scared but they certainly are not! Caught him about midway on the anal fin. Doesn't look too bad. Clean water and I'll watch it to be sure it doesn't infected. Don't think I snapped any rays.

I guess that's what happens when you feed Al's freeze dried black worms by hand. They get use to following your hand around and really get in the way. Maybe I'll keep to sticking the FDBW on the glass and give up the fun of hand feeding.

I just net out the poop. I ditched the siphon. If they don't get out of the way of the net, I just gently bump them out of the way.

    Discus do it bare bottom.

No worse for the wear - looking good I think!

Glad that beautiful discus is okay. Yes, I think we have all done that at one time or another. They get so used to us fiddling with the tank and feeding them they just assume we are going to do it again!

I've hit them many many times. Always startles me but never does much damage. Maybe put some mesh over the end of the tube or something? Or just try and work in an area they aren't in at that moment.

put a filter strainer on the end of your siphon tube, problem solved.

This tube is attached to a pump that moves quite a bit of water pretty quickly - so the issue is a little more of a problem than a gravity siphon. Just need to be more careful.
