This spawn has a greater-than-expected ratio of albinos to non-albinos. At least one of these pictures really captured the pink pupil.

    Hi Larry,
They came from Tony Peng of Sunrise Tropicals. I've gotten 4 adults and 11 juvies from him; they've all been nice fish.
I tried to press him on the origins of these, but he didn't give me any extra info. I actually really like them because they are unusual compared to the big-name strains that are available. Anyway, they are big and pretty and super friendly……definitely a good purchase.
    Thanks for looking!

The last picture explains why I asked, they are albino intermediates I thought I saw albinos after you posted the first picture. Albino pigeons are nice and the big plus is no peppering .

I was really happy to see albinos in their first spawn, especially since they are also heterozygous for PB (barred offspring). I've got one really nice albino from the first spawn, and I'm hoping to cross him/her with either one of the fire red/white leopard babies or one of my 14 bar 'super eruptions.' It's funny how a small sample size can work. This spawn (the 2nd) is 30-40% albino, and they seem to be thriving so far.

Beautiful pictures! I assume you're using a DSLR camera, can I ask which one? And it looks to me like you added light in front of the aquarium, judging from the lay of the shadows. Am I right? -Don

Can I see a picture of this fish (recent)

This spawn (the 2nd) is 30-40% albino,
This seems awfully high, to come from albino intermediates.

Agree with Rick you should get around 25% with albino intermediates.

Larry, your earlier point explains everything. A LOT of exported adult Asian pigeon-bloods are albino intermediates, precisely because they are much less likely to be as peppered. So it's not too far-fetched that these two both carry the gene.

As for the 25% thing, that is a probability based on an infinitely large sample size. These parents are tending their third big spawn now, 200+, and of those there are probably 10-12 "fry with little to no melanin deposition." AND those 10-12 are developmentally behind their wt siblings. Of the first spawn, of 80 or so fry that made it to 2", there were exactly 2 "fry with little to no melanin deposition." So in a population of 350ish individuals, the parents are WAY behind the 25% mark.

In the spawn featured in this thread, of about 60 fry, there are 20-24 "fry with little to no melanin deposition." Please see the last photo I posted above to verify the phenotype. I am judging by the pink pupil.

I WILL try to get a good photo of my nicer pink-pupiled juvie, and I will PM it to you, Rick. If you want, you can check out the very last picture I've posted in the "my breeders and fry development" thread; that photo is of the not-so-nice pink-pupiled juvie.
