I'm with Greg on this one. From what I see the tank will be supported by either nails or screws. Is there any weight sitting on any vertical support. Hard to tell with the tank in place.

Bill said someone here will always mention about not having middle vertical support. Ive been to his fishroom and all his stands are like that. No middle braces. Just side cross braces. We shooked the whole thing and it doesnt even budge. Its totally solid. Bill is experienced making it this way and thus im going with his way. And do like that it wont cover any view of lower tanks at all. Cuz all those lower tanks will be display tanks as well.

    Default Big Garage Fishroom Project!

    Hey David,

My guess is that Bills fish room is not lined with 180-200 gallon tanks, probably more like Hans' set up with multiple 40's. My concern for you is the fact that wood flexes and glass seams were not designed to flex. 2-3 40 gallon tanks might not be a problem on that stand but you are spanning at least 72" with a 1,600 pound load. It might hold for awhile but that load is going to flex the wood in the middle of that span most likely popping your seams on the tank at some point in the future. At the very least I would have gone with 2x6 where you have the 2x4. I'm not trying to be critical of your set up because I know how much effort you and Bill put into it. I just don't want it to fail on you.

    Greg

It's not my fish-room project but we are just trying help...so know that no negative suggestions on our behalf are intended.
Picture a home with a load barring beam...the ends are to sit on a vertical support. The only end supports I see is small pieces of 2x4 screwed or nailed which should be extended right to the floor to absorb the weight load.
I understand Greg's point but the corners are the most important.
Does anyone else see this or are my eyes playing games after just turning 50 yrs. old.

    Good luck,
    ...Ralph

You are cutting it close man! Sry, I didn't reply yesterday, I fell asleep. I was wondering how you would have time to do WC's since you are so busy.

i thought i could but decided why not automate it?
good news is i found out my water company dont use chloramine!
which means way less in filter replacement. i can use one filter for a yr and be ok. even if they add little chloramine in summer, this carbon filter can take care of it.
