    Default Rolling Tank Stand

I have had this set up since January and am finally getting around to taking a photo of the stand.

This is on eight castors that can support 250 pounds each. My reasoning for making it have the ability to be rolled is so I can get behind the tank to do maintenance like cleaning the back wall of the tank or making it easier to run the air lines or filtration lines.

Build is 2x4 doug fir, oak ply, and oak trim.

The tank is a standard 75 gallon that is 48 inches long.

Did you make the stand, too? Excellent work. Some finished doors would really make it outstanding.

I had an older gentleman who ownes a woodshop make it for me and my cost was under $600.00 in materials and labor.

Originally I was planning on putting a 20 gallon on the bottom shelf, but the tank is just too tall as in it fits but no lighting or filtration would fit. I may have doors put on the front, or I may have a sump built so that I can have freshwater shrimp in the sump, and use it as a plant nursery.

If I need to move the stand more than a foot or two for me to get behind it I can drain the tank by 1/2 and then move it so I am not stressing the tank. The right end is open at the end, back, and front so I have easy access to the canister filters and air pump on that shelf. My original plan was just to cantelever the top there, but it wanted to twist when moving it so we put in two 2x2 braces (one in front, one in back) to give it more stability.

Well, it sure looks like he did a fine job. I'm especially in favor of paying older gentlemen, since I'M ONE!l LOL.

I figured I would get a better stand in less time if I let him do it since he had the tools and years of experience I brought it home and stained it with tongue oil (natural) and then had my neighbor shoot it with spar varnish to make it waterproof.
