Default The eggs keep on turning white

    Hello everyone,

I am posting this on behalf of my buddy, he has several discus that paired up and no matter what the eggs keep on turning white.

In this particular case the male is an 18 to 24 months old 7" Blue Diamond that has paired before and spawned several times, the female is approximately 15 to 16 months old.

the water is 75% RO with a GH=1 and KH is less than one pH is 7.4

a small amount of methylene blue is added to the water after they laid the eggs.

Here are 2 pics of the aggs after they where laid, then after a couple of hours.
They all turned white after 10 hours approx.

Today, they spawned again after a 100% WC using 75% tap to 25% RO. methylene blue was added after they finished. the temp. is set to 29C

What can be done to get them to hatch??

    Please help

Firstly it can be 2 females or the male is not up to the mark yet, meaning it needed better low tds to fertilize the eggs imo.

I don't have a TDS meter but the using the API test kit I have DGH= 1 which is 17.9 ppm/GH

The water out of the tap is 71.6 ppm/GH

What you just did is something called thread hijacking .... something usually not welcomed in forums. I am sure someone here will help you.

The temperature was 30 C and I advised him to lower it down to 28 - 29 C

The pair laid eggs again last night and 90% of the eggs are not white till this moment. So I hope he gets wrigglers

Very good. 28 is plenty warm. At higher temps the males fertility tends to go down.

You should be able to see little dark spots for the eyes. I can not see any dark spots but the eggs are not totally in focus.

There were no dark spots until yesterday night, I guess this means the eggs are not fertilized. What could help here to get them to hatch next time?

I am thinking of using peat to lower pH.

Could a very low TDS damage the eggs?

If you saw dark spots last night then there should be two per egg which implies the eggs are fertile.

When someone has kept the males at a high temp it takes a little while for the fertility to return to normal. I would suggest that your buddy just keeps giving them good care and has some patience.
