They have large bodies and large breasts. The Opringtons are overall more round in shape. I have a sole Lavender Orpington pullet. She is my only chicken with a name. Her name is April, for my chicken neighbor who has helped me. The Orpingtons are way too sweet natured for me to kill and eat. That's not the case with my Bielefelders. They are friendly but not as lovable.

No new chicks yet today but the three from yesterday are looking very good... mamma is still tending the eggs as she should and the 3 little chicks are beebopping around her and tunnel under when they want to warm up or sleep.

A few of our chicks. My wife loves to hatch them. Been giving them to neighbors and friends.

Last time I stopped into Chicago Discus, Miranda showed off some of her real fancy show strains. Maybe she'll post a picture?

Last time you visited us, Willie, we were trying to raise a whole flock of fancy chickens. We had a half dozen or so Polish chickens with the fancy crests. But it turned out that they weren't very hardy, and we slowly lost every single one of our Polish. We have silkies, which I am very fond of, and a red bantam frizzle which is costing me a fortune with the vet bills. But, after all that, we got ourselves a white leghorn, the most non-fancy chicken you can get. But you know what, I love that little leghorn pullet. Every time I go out to the coop and sit down, she jumps right in my lap and makes the sweetest little cooing sounds. We got three more little leghorn chicks, and they are the same. I am raising them inside until they are old enough to go out. But every time I open their cage door, they are all over me!

This is my pride and joy, Buffy our little club-footed Silkie rooster. We hatched him in an incubator. We tried and failed to fix his club feet, but he doesn't know the difference. He's the big little man among the silkie hens.

I remember Buffy! Good to see him still kicking two Summers later. Quite frankly, I've always thought club feet on a bird is hilarious.
