A house a couple of homes from mine had 15 guinea fowl ...they were never a problem until adults then they wandered...to mine and neighbors yards....very loud birds..not nice sounding at all.The owners could care less...thankfully one by one nature got ahold of them until there was only one loud mouth left. ...which then made its home in the woods next me. Beautiful bird. We had a few days of quiet and thought...thank god!

Next day there was a parade of 2 guinea fowl and about 20 chicks across my yard! Ah well they are still in the area but seem to stay around their owners place.

.I have to say honestly though... no amount of boiling will make an old hen tender. Edible Yes, but tender...no.
Toss them in a pressure cooker, bones and all, toss in some veggies, brown rice, cook the **** out of it, best dog food you can get.

I've done the chicken thing. It makes sense if you like eggs and chicken. I don't car much for either and cleaning out the coop in summer wasn't the high point of my day. Your set up looks nice Al. Best of luck with your hens.

Had chickens for years now, love the fresh eggs - taste so much better than store bought and more nutritional! When they quit laying they've earned a trip to the grill.

We have 6 Ancona Ducks... Does that count?
The eggs are good, but different from chickens. Huge Yolk!
We would love to have chickens, but not both!. Lol.

I've seen or heard two or three things about "residential" chickens since I made my first post on this thread yesterday, I'm thinking it's revenge of the chickens.

If more people had to kill there own meat there would prob be more vegitarians. City living is making us into live stock ... we just get our genetically modified food at the supermaket instead of the trough. On a more positive note ... great work on the hen house.

Chicken farming has gone high tech. I know a guy with two commercial chicken barns. You have to shower and suit up to go in like you were going into the place where apple is making iphones.

LOL, and to think as kids all we had to do was remember to shut the door when we went into grandpa's coop.

I was afraid to reach under the chickens and get their eggs at my grandmothers house when I was a kid. A big Rhode Island Red rooster started chasing us one day and my cousing swung a hoe handle at it. Hit it in the head and killed it.

Yea, there are better ways to wrangle roosters. Hope that didn't get you two into too much trouble.

Our defense was he was chasing us.
