Larry congrats. I am glad they spawned. Good luck with them. I have been traveling like crazy lately and spent very little time in the fishroom. Hopefully next week I will get more time.
One of the pairs I brought home from the NADA 2014 Show was a proven pair from James P's Heckle/Penang cross. James had several really nice proven pairs from this cross available at the Show. John N brought home one of the pairs also. Looking forward to seeing the outcome of this pairing. Went down to do water changes tonight to find they had spawned. Counted what looked to be about 175 eggs. Went upstairs to get my phone to take some pics and when I returned the count was down to about 125 so I threw a screen over the cone.

Way to go Larry! This cold front warmed them up!
Congrats.

Well unfortunately the male was a jumper back during the summer. But, when one door closes another opens up.
I pulled what I was hoping was a male blue face heckle from my heckle group. The female heckle cross from James spawned twice and both times the eggs were not fertilized. I never saw the heckle make passes and never saw a tube. So I pulled another heckle and put it in the tank with them. The first heckle wasn't very happy with this, lol. Well the female spawned again this week and the male finally got it right.

Cool Larry, looks like a good sized spawn and nice to have those spare fish . I have a heckel that is hot to trot if I had a willing female.
Your discus are talking to you....are you listening
Heckels are my least favorite wild but I bought them hoping to identify a male that I could use for crosses. While heckles are my least favorite, I really love heckle crosses. James has had great success getting the heckle 5th bar to show in the F1's and F2's. With this female being one of the original F1's I'm hoping to keep the strong 5th bar. Time will tell.

DEFINITELY a cool looking pair, Larry. Please please please keep us posted how it comes along. Hell, if I have the space in the tank and time then I'll drive my butt out to Cummings, Ga if I could successfully harass you for some ahead of time. I'm usually a brown-based red fan but those look they'll be producing some awesome little ones. Great stuff!

Well done. Looking forward on how tgese will turn out.
Well we won't get to see how these turn out lol. I pulled the cage and both the male and female were great. The cleaned them and put them on the back side of the cone and then diligently took care of them. The next day they started going free swimming and were attaching to the female. Thought I had it made. Came home from work and they were gone. Another week or so and I'm sure there will be another batch.
