since i have two fish showing symtoms would i inject them both with oxytetracyclin (if i can find it, and if i go this route)

as for quarantine, i will set up my 29 gallon and put the two fish i have in it, with an airstone, how long do i have generally to do a WC before ammonia starts to appear? i do a daily 75%WC on my 75 gallon.. will one a day work for the un cycled 29 gallon as well?

i called everywhere in town today, vets, pharmacys and no one has kanamycin in this town


Edit: so i just called around for Oxytetracyclin i called a livestock store, they said to call a vet clinic, so i do and they say "sorry cant give you any its prescription only"

like **** im starting to get so frustrated, im willing to do anything to save the fish, and i cant get anything i need in this town.

As for Kanamycin,

i can only get 5G bottles of Kanaplex, and the kindness of people on another (local)forum, are going to help me get it

one person offered 3 5G bottles, will this be enough to treat a 29G tank? or should i be quickly looking to add more Kanamycin? will kanaplex work as well as the pure stuff?

kanaplex will work, its pretty expensive for what you get. I am not sure how effective it will be at this stage of the infection (that goes for any bath administered anti-biotic) I am at a loss at how to help you find the medication you need with you being in Canada, somebody else will have to step in and help on that front.

If using kanaplex (which is only 40% kanamycin) you want to dose at a minimum of 1/2 teaspoon per 10 gallons, I would probably go at least 3/4 and maybe even a full teaspoon in your predicament.

no ive never heard of that store. i called the biggest farming store in my area and they right away told me to talk to a Vet, so im assuming the drug is only available by prescription, as the vet told me.

1) setting up my quarantine tank now, like i said it has no filter, ill run a air stone how often will i have to change the water so i dont see any Cycling activities?

2)Im going to add Kosher salt to the tank is 4.5 OZ enough for a 29G tank?

ok, i will get the 3 bottles of 5G Kanaplex from the person who offered, and then i will order 3 or 4 more bottles from a site, i wish i could get pure kanamycin...

It's close, I would bump it up to 5 oz. Dropsy is a condition in which the osmoregultion in a fish has gone haywire. We are trying to counteract that.

the other fish has no signs of swelling, or sickness, just not eating and yesterday he had white poop... and he is hanging in the top back corner with the sick fish non stop. today is day 3 of no eating for this fish....

the swelling appears to be the same as yesterday, if not a little worse, the Epsom salt and Metro have not worked thus far..

Thanks so much april, this means alot to me, payment will be sent ASAP, I just finished setting up my 29G QT, so now im just waiting for the temp in my 75G to go down to 82 before I transfer him into the 29G so I dont shock him during the transfer, I also added the Kosher Salt to the 29G, 5 grams isnt very much? Looked around 1 tbsp worth.

If your referring to the salt, that was to be 5 ounces, not grams

any suggestions on how to move my Discus to the QT tank without giving them temperature shock?
