No need to get water from the main tank....just fresh water from the tap ( use a thermometer to adjust the water temperature to 28 degree Celsius .

    Hospital tank

    1. Heater
    2. Air stone wrapped with filter floss connected to air pump.
    3. Add meds......antibiotics ( gram negative) every seven hrs .
    4. Daily water changes 80 %

    Works for me.

Don't get your hopes too high, this condition is almost always fatal, chance of survival is maybe 5%......

My hopes arent very high, I just hope for the best

I got the kanaplex today April thank you so much.

-Rick, I dosed as you suggested this morning, what are your suggestions for re-dosing? I work tomorrow from 4am to 12pm, when I get home im going to change the water since no filter, and then should I re dose the same ammount as I did today (3/4 tsp per 10G) and should I re add the kosher salt?

To a complete redose of the kanaplex and metro, add salt to replace what was removed during the water change (ie if you do a 50% wc add back half the 2.5 oz of salt)

    How is it looking?

I didnt re dose metro today as I thought you said not too, I must have been mistaken, should I add metro?

It looks about the same as yesterday, very inactive stays in one place in the hospital tank, it was doing a full on headstand all night, but hasnt done that since I did the WC today and dosed the Kanaplex, on the bottom of the tank is alot of white slimy looking poop.

He also had a long thin strand of slime coming off him, and his eyes are still popped out quite alot... but his breathing seems to be alot more relaxed,

I will keep my high hopes up, and do everything I can.

The smaller one that stopped eating and had white poop that I put in the QT tank with the Leopard looks good still, no bloating look to him, his eyes look good, hes dark, and he has a very small white blotch on the tip of his back tail....

Ill keep trying my best to save them..

I got mixed feelings about having the second fish in the QT tank, the issue is the amount of salt we are using to counteract the dropsy in the first fish. While the second fish may benefit from the kanamycin and metro, not so sure about the salt.......

and yes, dose metro along with the kanaplex at 1/4 teaspoon per 40 gallons

after tomorrows WC start backing off on the salt by .5 oz a day

If youre iffy on having the other fish in the QT tank, what do you suggest?

Also 1/4 teaspoon per 40 gallons of metro in the QT, I have a 29 gallon QT that I only have filled 50% to conserve the meds I have spent so much on.

So well say 15 gallons in the QT tank, 1/4 teaspoon per 40 gallons is only like a small pinch of metro in the QT?

I really want to thank you for all the time you have taken to help me, I would be lost without your advice.

the trouble is, that is an awfully small volume of water for two fish to be in without filtration. I understand your wanting to reduce costs and preserve the kanaplex, but we don't want to add another stressor (ammonia) to the fish. As long as the second fish is not showing signs of bloat like the first, I would myself add him back to the display tank and continue treatment there with the metro (you did not stop treatment in the display did you?).

Your other option would be to cull the bloated fish and concentrate on treating the second.

In a perfect world each of these two fish would have their own QT tank, or your QT tank would be larger. So we are going to have to make a compromise here somewhere. Of course you could up the water changes to 2x a day on the Qt tank, but that defeats the purpose of conserving medication.

Calculating the amount of meds you now have on hand, how long will you be able to continue with treatment?
