Default Wayne Submersible Utility Pump to fill up tank?

After 3 years of filling up my 100 gallon tank using 5 gallon buckets, I have finally decided that it's not worth the back ache.

I need a pump that will push 50 gallons of water from a brute barrel to my 100 gallon tank. The top of my tank is about 5ft above the ground. I will only be using this pump to fill up the tank, not to empty the tank, so there will be no sand or poop or plants interfering with the pump.

Will this pump from home depot do the job?

If you can find this one, I would definitely consider it. I currently have one in each of my 5 water storage tanks and they have worked flawlessly for 3+ years. I like the fact that they are oil less. I have a phobia about oil leaking into the water.

I can't believe you went 3 yrs doing this the old fashion way! You could have saved your back a long time ago by spending less than $100

You can simply get any submersible pump that has the gpm that you desire. I have this Rio 1400 submersible pump for instance that does the job well.

I was unable to find an oil-free submersible utility pump similar to the Wayne 1/6 HP. So instead I went with this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-AAPW...bmersible+pump

A Hydrofarm AAPW1000 1000-GPH Active Aqua Submersible Pump

At $50 it has a 1000 GPH flow rate. Best bang for the buck I could find so I just ordered it. We'll see how it performs next week.

that seems like a great deal, but I have never heard of that type of pump. Do you know if it can be dialed down? I would imagine that would create some crazy current. Do you have substrate?

    This is what I use.

    Model - JSSSP-FGHT

Just attach my Python to it and clamp it to the top of the tank. Plug the pump into a wireless plug outlet and remotely turn it on or off. Total cost under $75.00.
