    Default Imminent arrival

    Hi all,
After a while out from keeping wild discus I've taken the leap again and have some arriving next week .
I've got my main 6x2x2 tank set up at the moment with rummy nose , bleeding hearts, cory adolifi , and 4 Festivum that are in the proses of spawning as I type, all of the fish are wild😃 the tank has been up and running for about four years, and will eventually after quantine hold the 7 new greens.
My question is : the water is very soft in my area, no kh to speak, a of ph around 6.5 out of the tap and tds of around 40,
In the tank I use ro buffered up to a tds of 80 and has a ph of 4.5 ( it's been stable at this for years )
So I'm thinking of bringing the ph up to 6.5 or should I just leave it as its been stable at this ? I should point out the ph was this low as I had a group of heckels and I've never changed it as all the other species have thrived
    Many thanks jim

Hi Jim, I would think your new greens will be more than happy in your current water. Raising the ph a bit before arrival might be a good idea.

    Thanks Pat,
What sort of ph should I aim for I was thinking around the 6 mark ? Also with having no kh but a tds of 80 will it stay at that level or should I raise the kh to prevent a sudden drop in ph ? Many thanks jim

Jim, I would personally place the fish in quarantine tank and leave the display tank ph alone. I QT my new arrivals for about six weeks or more depending on how they are doing and eating. You can allow the ph to drift downward in the QT tank prior to adding them to the display tank.

    Welcome to the forum.
Yes, I agree your water is just fine.
Aim for pH of 6.0 to 6.5 t start off with.
    Good luck to you.
