I will research it. I have actually never even looked it up to be honest. Many talk about Joshua Tree but I haven't been there either

I would drive there via 14 to 178 to 190. I highly recommend it for photographers, hikers, etc. It is a national treasure imho. The range of landscapes available at death valley is amazing. Here is another photo from 2006 shot on my Nikon D2x (crop sensor) with a Tamron 14mm 2.8, taken in Badwater, Death Valley, the lowest point in the lower 48 states at 282 feet below sea level: I think I should go back as it would be better with my full frame D800 and 14-24mm nikkor.

They have actually geotagged the rocks! If it should rain in the winter, and the water freezes, and the wind picks up, the ice breaks up and piles up on the rocks, acting like a sail to push the rocks along, leaving a trail in the soften playa. In a place that normally gets 2" of rain a year, that combination of events doesn't happen that often.

Steve, we spent the night and cat napped in the car, ate barbecued power bars! Sunset, moonrise and sunrise. It is a hell of a drive and I won't do that again! I posted other shots earlier on other threads. Neat to see.

Spending the night sounds like big fun. You got some cool shots. The rock in your last shot looks like the same rock I shot in 2006. Take a look at the rock and tell me what you think. Spending the night would break that long drive up just enough for it to be tolerable. It is way too much driving and banging in one day!

Joshua Tree is cool. I've never been to Death Valley though....except the one in Clemson SC . Dying to go though, on my list to get shots like above.
