Hi from Brisbane, Australia
Hi guys,
Looking to get in to Discus.
My background. Last three years I have been keeping and breeding wild bettas, and more recently fancy bettas. Before that, I kept and bred dwarf cichlids for about 5 years, mainly Laetacara species and Apistogramma species. And before that I started with and bred Geophagus sp. araguaia.
I am only in the research stage of this change of direction in the hobby, but already know two display tanks are in my future (along with probable attempts at breeding in dedicated breeding tanks) as I am drawn to two variants.
Wild type Symphysodon aequifasciatus haraldi (blue discus) like those pictured in the PFK article; Definitive guide to Discus: part two. Though I would prefer an aquarium strain, rather than actual wild Discus.
And red turquoise from Alex Piwowarski. http://www.diskuszucht-piwowarski.de/Rottuerkis.html Unfortunately, it's my understanding that we can not import Discus in to Australia directly from Alex Piwowarski because of our import laws and requirements.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to lurking here for some time to come.

Hey briztoon, I am in MEL AU and just started keeping discus. There are limited discus options in AU, I have Forrest imports from a LFS in MEL https://www.facebook.com/SunnysideAquarium. In my research I have found these guys in your area http://livingreefaquariums.com.au/. There is also these guys but I never got a response to my email http://wilddiscus.weebly.com/

Thanks for the welcome ericNH.
Hi jimstreet. I visited a local breeder yesterday and had a nice long chat. He gave me contact details for Rod Lewis. Once I have my tanks set up and cycling, I will contact Rod to see what variants he can import and at what prices. I'm certainly open to sourcing the same variant from multiple sources to mix blood lines, so I'll keep the Gold Coast LFS in mind. Thanks for the link.
Cheers
