wow what a cool fish that I didn't even know existed. Your tank substrate will soon be completely clam shells. I can imagine that feeding her is quite expensive. I feel like you will soon be putting table scraps in the tank. Her pattern reminds me of military issue camouflage. What SA cichlid is that? Krobia??

Thanks Jacklyn, The SA cichlid is a keyhole cichlid, Cleithracara maronii, I purchased a large group of wild Rams and he/she came in the group. I thought it was a ram for a long time until it started out growing the rest. Did the research to figure out what it was. He's a great companion for Yoda when the other fish in the tank get to close to her he chases them away its really funny to watch. We call him Pepito I really think he believes he's a MBU puffer LOL. As far as Yoda goes don't even consider this fish unless you have a 300++ tank to put her in they grow so fast its not even funny.....Josie

Keyhole cichlid? Isnt it missing the face mask?? It looks more like a Aequidens diadema to me, which is a fish I am very interested in keeping, this is why I asked what it was.

I think your right Jacklyn thats looks more like him than the keyhole. Wow where were you when I was trying to identify him. you hit it right on the head thats him....Thank you so much for helping figure this mystery out....

we would need Ryan to confirm, he's the guru. If it is an Aequidens diadema what is his temperament like? Would you compare him to a bigger Ram?? Im thinking of getting some because I hope their temperament is similar to that of the laetacara dorsigera that I have fallen in love with, and to me the l. dorsigera is like an oversized bolivian ram. Do you just have one of the Aequidens diadema? and he stays at the bottom third of the tank and pretty much eats whatever you throw at him??
