I checked out the website as I'm also in the market for LED lights. You may be getting quality lights at buildmyled, but looks like you would have to pay more than double the price you would pay for fixtures on the market.

Most fixtures yes I agree are much cheaper than BML. I have in the past bought cheaper brands of leds and they all (and by all I mean 2 brands) had lighting issues after a year or so. I only payed the extra amount because this is most likely going to be the last light I buy for the tank. I want quality lighting for both the discus and the plants I have. Expensive in the end, but worth it in my opinion if the light will last 7+ years.

    YUN..

i saw the difference these lights make compared to other lights.. we put BML and 2 other LED that was from a different known brands (forgot names).. but BML was FAR superior with the colors of the fish...

yes.. of course there are cheaper lights.. but these ime are hands down best..

but if you have never seen what they can do.. then yes.. i would agree cheaper LED are best..

I bought the XB series with the dimmer and light mounts....for tax plus shipping was ~$360.
It looks much better than the picture suggests.

You can call or email BuildMyLed with questions and they will reply promptly. These lights are expensive compared to other brands, but in the long wrong they will last and you will be totally satisfied with the product, plus they have an lifetime warranty. I'm feeling you about spending the cash, I kept wondering how I was going to explain this to the wifey. I lucked out when delivered to my home, she was out of the house, but that night she asked what new light I had 'cause it made the tank look real good! Nothing else was said, how much, etc. All I can say is that these lights will make your whole tank "pop" plus grow plants for discus tanks.

LEDs in general are supposed to last very long. I got a Tao Tronics 165W LED fixture for my 56G Reef tank for $160.

Got lots of good reviews on Amazon and ReefCenral. Comes with two year warranty, but we will see how long it lasts. Working well so far ...

    Braydon00,

Now you've had some time with it, what do you think? Would you recommend the BML?

Did anyone else try the ones linked here from Ebay or Amazon? What are your thoughts?

Yes, I love it! Ive had it now almost 2 months and everything is going very well. The plants are all growing nicely, and I really like that I can dim them when I want/need to. The fish really pop under it was well! The dimmer is a must in my opinion. They are pricey though but IMO very worth it.
