Red face Water change schedule for Discus fry

    Hi Friends,

After a long struggle i have finally managed to start a new thread,

I manged to breed super red melons and have approx 200+ babies, which have been separated from the parents and are on BBS.

They are in a 29 gallon breeder and I do 25% daily W/C's, will that be enough to ensure they grow normally?

Also wanted some helpful advise on what is the ideal W/C's and feeding schedule for Discus fry.

    Eg:
    - What type of foods?
    - What duration of feeding?
    - When to start with BHM and how?
    - Water changes and how much percentage and frequency?

Thank you my fellow discus lovers.

How big are they/how old? With the little info you've given,I would be doing at least 50%,and when mine reach dime size,Im around 90%.They should have already picking at bhm if you were giving it to the parents and already eating it if they are pulled from the parents.

    200 in a 29 gallon.................you should be doing 100% twice a day.

They should really be in a bigger tank with 100% a day.

    Hi.

They have started picking on BHM,
I scrape BHM and fees at 8 am, the 3 feeding of BBS while I'm away at work and the another feeding if BHM at night before w/c
However I have started loosing on 3-4 babies everyday...
I will move them to a 55 gallon one they are dime size...
Ant changes to be made to the above schedule apart from increasing my w/c schedule?

They need the bigger tank now but they also need the water changes. The biggest mistake made with fry/juvies is not enough clean water. You most likely have a bacteria problem from the bad water.

I'm with Larry. I'd likely do a light PP treatment on them and get them into a bigger tank before you end up losing the majority of them.

You are losing them because of crappy water. They are way to crowded and you are not changing near enough water. Move them to a 55 and change at least 50% of the water daily. Sincve you have already screwed them up you might need to change water twice a day to try and get them back on the right track. I feed my babies nothing but BBS and BH.

Clean water will cure most of the issues. Hard to know exactly what damage has been done without seeing the fish in person.

    Good luck.

    Hi friends,
Thanks a lot for the advice...
The mortality rate has dropped to a great extent.
Only the weaker/ smaller/ stunts due off that only jus 1 odd in like 3-4 days.. Rest look to be fine..
Its is always a pleasure to get appropriate advice.

    Thanks all...

    Hi all.
Can you help as to what will be an appropriate water change schedule for fry which have jus attached to the parents.

I want to avoid the risk of spooking the parents..

How much % of water should I change for newly attached fries? And what schedule to follow?

As in an avoidance of water change, if yes how many days?

    Week 1 , wat %?
    Week 2, wat %?

    Water temp?

Should I avoid feeding the parents for couple of days?

    Thank you..

On my pairs with eggs, wigglers, or fry I still change 50% everry single day. I always have and always will. In my opinion there is never a time when clean water is more important then when the fry are with the parents.
